What is happening in the sky
Nothing reverses. Retrograde motion is an apparent change of direction seen from Earth, the same effect as a slower car seeming to slide backwards when you overtake it. Saturn takes about 29.4 Earth years to circle the Sun, so it moves only about 12 degrees a year and spends two to three years in each sign. Earth overtakes it every 378 days, so the retrograde comes about two weeks later each year. The middle of the retrograde is the opposition, when Saturn is opposite the Sun, visible all night and at its brightest for the year; through a small telescope the rings are visible.
