Moving or relocating? How to time and place it with astrology

Should I move? What your chart can tell you

Astrology will not decide whether you should leave Denver for Austin, but it will tell you two things the pros-and-cons list cannot: whether the place sits on lines that tend to help or test you, and whether the timing supports a fresh start or is asking you to wait. People who search "should I move astrology" usually have already half-decided; what they want is to know whether the sky agrees, and if not, whether waiting three months would change that. Both are answerable.

The method is a two-step. First, the place: astrocartography maps your birth chart onto the globe and shows which planets are strong in which cities. Second, the time: transits to your 4th house (home), its ruler, your Moon and your Ascendant show whether change is supported right now. Where: the astrocartography part, briefly

Astrocartography draws a line across the map for each planet at each of the four angles (rising, setting, culminating, anti-culminating). Living within roughly 300 miles of a line makes that planet loud in your life there.

Lines that tend to favour a home: the Sun (confidence, visibility, feeling like yourself), Venus (love, friends, ease, money through pleasure; see the Venus line), Jupiter (growth, luck, opportunity, sometimes excess) and, for people who want calm, the Moon on the IC (a place that feels like home fast).

Lines that ask more of you: Saturn (discipline, slow success, loneliness at first; good for a career move, hard for a fresh start), Pluto (transformation, intensity, power struggles), Neptune (inspiration and confusion in equal measure), Mars (energy and conflict), Uranus (excitement and instability). None is forbidden. A Saturn line is where people build careers; a Pluto line is where they reinvent themselves. They are just not where you go to rest.

Relocation astrology adds the relocated chart: your birth chart recast for the new place, which shifts your houses and shows which areas of life move to the foreground. A city that puts Jupiter in your relocated 4th house or Venus on your relocated Ascendant is one where the move itself tends to feel good.

When: the transits that make a move stick

Jupiter to the 4th house, the IC or the 4th house ruler. The best-timed moves in astrology happen here: expansion in the home sector, a bigger place, a better city, a sense that the ground rose to meet you. Jupiter is in Leo from June 2026 to July 2027, so if your 4th house or IC is in Leo (or your 4th ruler is being trined from Leo), this is your window.

Saturn to the 4th house or IC. Heavier, but not bad. Saturn moves tend to be for structural reasons (a job, a family obligation, buying rather than renting) and they hold. Saturn is in Aries from February 2026 until 2028: an Aries 4th house or IC is in a period of building a foundation rather than choosing one on impulse.

Uranus to the 4th house, the Moon or the Ascendant. Sudden moves, often abroad or far, often surprising even to you. Uranus in Gemini since April 2026 is in range for Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces placements. These moves are exciting and rarely final; expect to move again within a few years.

Progressed or transiting Moon through the 4th house. A smaller, faster signal: the transiting Moon passes through your 4th house for about two and a half days each month, and the progressed Moon spends around two and a half years there. Both correspond to a focus on home. If you can, set moving day when the transiting Moon is in your 4th house or in Cancer or Taurus, the traditional home-and-settling signs.

A new moon. Traditional timing puts fresh starts at or just after a new moon, in the waxing phase. The next new moons in 2026 are October 10 (Libra), November 9 (Scorpio) and December 9 (Sagittarius). A lease signed or a move made in the two weeks after a new moon has the growing Moon behind it.

When not to: the transits that make a move messy

Mercury retrograde. The one everyone knows, and it is right. Mercury retrograde is when the moving company loses the booking, the lease has a clause you did not read, the utilities transfer fails and the address on the boxes is wrong. In 2026 the last window is October 24 to November 13, with a shadow period roughly two weeks either side. A Void-of-Course Moon on signing day. The lease, the purchase agreement and the moving contract are documents, and documents signed during a Void-of-Course Moon have a habit of needing to be redone. Saturn or Pluto square the Moon. Not a reason not to move, but a reason to expect the first months to be lonelier or heavier than the city itself would suggest. Knowing it is the transit and not the place is worth a lot.

Moving in late 2026: the short version

If you are planning a move in the last quarter of 2026: the window from mid-September to October 23 is cleaner than what follows, because Mercury retrograde starts October 24 and Venus is already retrograde in Scorpio from October 3 (fine for moving, less fine for choosing a place based on a new relationship). The new moon on October 10 is a good anchor for signing. If you cannot move before late October, the next clean stretch opens after November 13, with the December 9 new moon in Sagittarius, a sign that loves distance and new horizons, as the next natural start date.
