What is the astrology of 2026 about?
Most years, one outer planet changes sign and astrologers write a thousand articles about it. In 2026, four did, within six months of each other, and the lunar nodes moved as well. That is why 2026 has felt less like a year and more like a change of scenery: the slow planets set the backdrop against which everything else plays out, and the backdrop was swapped.

The key planetary transits of 2026, dated
- January 26: Neptune enters Aries for a stay that lasts into the late 2030s. Idealism gets a pioneering edge; illusions get tested by action.
- February 14: Saturn enters Aries, staying until 2028. The Saturn return in Aries begins for everyone born with Saturn in Aries (roughly 1996–1999), and Saturn's tests of courage and self-reliance start for the cardinal signs.
- April 26: Uranus enters Gemini after its final months in Taurus, for roughly seven years. Last time Uranus was here was the 1940s.
- June 30: Jupiter enters Leo after a year in Cancer, staying until July 2027. Growth moves from home and security to self-expression, romance and being seen.
- Late July: the lunar nodes move from Pisces–Virgo to Aquarius–Leo, redirecting the collective growth edge toward community and innovation (North Node) and away from ego-driven performance (South Node).
- Pluto in Aquarius all year, retrograde from early May to mid-October.
Eclipses 2026
There were four eclipses in 2026, in two seasons, and all are now behind us:
- February 17: annular solar eclipse in Aquarius (a new moon). The opening act for the Aquarius era of the nodes: collective, technological, future-facing beginnings.
- March 3: total lunar eclipse in Virgo (a full moon). A release around work, health, routines and the Virgo South Node's perfectionism.
- August 12: total solar eclipse in Leo (a new moon). A landmark beginning in creativity, leadership and love, and the first eclipse on the new Leo–Aquarius axis; the path crossed Spain and Iceland.
- August 28: partial lunar eclipse in Pisces (a full moon). The closing release of the Pisces–Virgo node cycle: endings in matters of faith, escape and compassion.

Retrogrades in 2026
Mercury was retrograde February 26 – March 20 (Pisces into Aquarius) and June 29 – July 23 (Cancer), and turns retrograde again October 24 – November 13, starting in Scorpio. The Mercury retrograde guide covers shadow periods and a survival plan.
Venus is retrograde October 3 – November 13 in Scorpio, the only Venus retrograde of the year and the most important relationship transit of Q4. It overlaps the Mercury cycle almost entirely.
Mars has no retrograde in 2026; the next begins in January 2027.
The outer planets spend months retrograde every year: Pluto from early May to mid-October, Neptune from early July to December, Saturn from late July to December, Uranus from September into early 2027, and Jupiter turning retrograde in Leo in December. 2026 month by month
January. Neptune enters Aries on the 26th, the first of the year's big moves. Mercury and Venus in Capricorn keep the tone practical; the vision gets a plan.
February. Saturn enters Aries on the 14th, the annular solar eclipse in Aquarius arrives on the 17th, and Mercury turns retrograde on the 26th. The busiest month of the year for change; many people date a decision to February.
March. The total lunar eclipse in Virgo on the 3rd releases something that was already ending; Mercury turns direct on the 20th, the same day as the equinox and the astrological new year.
April. Uranus enters Gemini on the 26th. Ideas, devices and conversations speed up; something about how you learn or communicate changes for good.
May. Pluto stations retrograde in Aquarius in early May, turning the year's power questions inward for five months.
June. Jupiter enters Leo on the 30th, and Mercury stations retrograde in Cancer on the 29th. A generous, dramatic, slightly nostalgic turn of the year.
July. Mercury turns direct on the 23rd; Saturn and Neptune station retrograde in Aries; the lunar nodes shift into Aquarius–Leo late in the month. The year's second half has a different centre of gravity.
August. The total solar eclipse in Leo on the 12th and the partial lunar eclipse in Pisces on the 28th. A bold new chapter on one side, a quiet letting-go on the other.
September. Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini; the Sun enters Libra at 00:05 UTC on the 23rd; the month closes with a full moon in Aries. A breather before the retrograde season.
October (in detail). Venus stations retrograde in Scorpio on the 3rd. The new moon in Libra on the 10th asks what you want from your relationships, with their ruler in review. Pluto stations direct in mid-October. The Sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd, Mercury stations retrograde on the 24th, and the full moon in early Taurus peaks on the 26th with both personal planets retrograde: a release moon for money, the body and security. November (in detail). The new moon in Scorpio on the 9th plants an intention four days before the double retrograde ends. On the 13th Venus and Mercury both station direct, and the backlog of postponed decisions starts to clear over the following two weeks of post-shadow. The Sun enters Sagittarius on the 22nd and the full moon in Gemini on the 24th brings withheld information to the surface. Thanksgiving week is chatty, restless and honest.
December (in detail). Saturn and Neptune both station direct in Aries in December, ending their long retrogrades and releasing the brakes on the year's central project. The new moon in Sagittarius on the 9th is the natural date to set 2027 intentions. The Sun enters Capricorn at the solstice on the 21st, Jupiter turns retrograde in Leo, and the year ends with a full moon in Cancer on the 24th: family, home and emotional truth on Christmas Eve.
What 2026 means by element
Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius). Your year. Saturn and Neptune in Aries put structure and vision into a fire sign; Jupiter in Leo brings luck and visibility from midsummer; the South Node in Leo asks Leos in particular to lead without needing applause. Aries feels Saturn as pressure and a Saturn return if born 1996–99; Sagittarius gets the easiest version, a trine from Saturn and Neptune, and a Jupiter trine from Leo.
Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn). Uranus leaving Taurus after seven years is the relief of the year for Taurus, whose life stops being rearranged without notice. Virgo carried the South Node through July and gets to put down perfectionism as a strategy. Capricorn feels Saturn in Aries as a square: authority questioned, foundations tested, and the response that works is building rather than defending.
Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). Uranus in Gemini opens a seven-year reinvention for Geminis, starting with those born in late May. Aquarius holds Pluto and, from July, the North Node, plus the February 2027 eclipse: the sign is being rebuilt from the inside, and 2026 is the foundation year. Libra faces Saturn and Neptune from across the chart, which shows up in relationships: who is reliable, who was a projection, and Venus retrograde in October makes the audit unavoidable.
Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Cancer had Jupiter until June 30 and should have something to show for it; Saturn in Aries now squares the sign, asking for boundaries at home and work. Scorpio hosts both October retrogrades in its own sign and becomes the year's laboratory for what it wants from love and money. Pisces says goodbye to Neptune after fourteen years and to the North Node in July; the fog lifts, and clarity is not always comfortable.
