What does Venus mean in astrology?

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and the brightest object in our sky after the Sun and Moon, which is why every culture that watched it made it a goddess of love and beauty. In a birth chart Venus keeps that job. It describes attraction (what pulls you in and what you pull in), affection (how you show you care), pleasure (what feels good, from food to music to touch), taste (your aesthetic), values (what you consider worth having) and, through its rulership of Taurus, money (how you earn, spend and keep).

Venus rules two signs, Taurus and Libra, and is strongest there: earthy, sensual loyalty in Taurus, airy, social harmony in Libra. It is in detriment in the opposite signs, Scorpio and Aries, where its instinct for ease meets intensity and impatience. It is exalted in Pisces, where love becomes devotion, and in fall in Virgo, where love has to pass inspection first. Venus retrograde in Scorpio, October 3 to November 13, 2026

Venus turns retrograde about every 18 months for around 40 days. The next one runs from October 3 to November 13, 2026, and Venus spends most of it in Scorpio, the sign of its detriment. Expect the classic retrograde themes turned up: exes reappearing, relationships being re-evaluated rather than started, money and values under review, and an urge to change your look that is best delayed until Venus is direct. It overlaps with Mercury retrograde (October 24 to November 13 in Scorpio and Libra), so late October and early November 2026 are for reviewing, not launching, in love and money.
