Should I take this job? The astrological framework

Career astrology has two layers, and the mistake most people make is to look at only one. The natal layer says what kind of work suits you, what you need from a role, and how you tend to rise or stall. The transit layer says what this particular year is for: building, expanding, escaping, or waiting. A job that fits your natal chart perfectly can still arrive in a year that is asking you to consolidate, and a job that looks like a lateral move can arrive on the exact Jupiter transit that turns it into a career. You need both layers, and then you need your own judgment, because astrology describes conditions and does not sign offer letters.

Here is the framework in order. Read your 10th house and Midheaven for fit. Check the transits to the 10th, 6th and 2nd houses and to your Midheaven for timing. Check whether the offer arrived during Mercury retrograde. Choose a day to negotiate and a day to accept. Then run the checklist below.

The natal layer: your 10th house and Midheaven

The 10th house is career, public role and reputation: the work the world sees you doing. Its cusp is the Midheaven (MC), and the sign on the MC describes the style of career that suits you. An Aries MC wants to lead and start; a Taurus MC wants to build and be paid well for it; a Gemini MC wants variety and communication; a Cancer MC wants to nurture, house or feed people; a Leo MC needs visibility and creative ownership; a Virgo MC wants to be expert and useful; a Libra MC wants partnership, design or justice; a Scorpio MC wants depth, research and control of the sensitive things; a Sagittarius MC wants to teach, travel or publish; a Capricorn MC wants authority earned over time; an Aquarius MC wants to work on the future with a team of equals; a Pisces MC wants meaning, art or service.

The ruler of the MC and where it sits tells you how you get there. MC ruler in the 3rd house: through writing, networks, local moves. In the 7th: through partners and clients. In the 9th: through education, abroad, publishing. Planets in the 10th describe what you bring: Saturn in the 10th builds slowly and lasts; Jupiter in the 10th rises fast and sometimes over-promises; Mars in the 10th competes; Venus in the 10th charms and does well in people-facing or aesthetic work.

Alongside the 10th, the 6th house is daily work, colleagues and health at work, and the 2nd house is income and what you value. A job that is great for the 10th (title, visibility) and bad for the 6th (culture, hours) is the promotion that costs you your health. Read all three.

The transit layer: what this year is for

Pull up your current transits in the Cosmic Simulator and look at what is touching the 10th, 6th and 2nd houses, the MC and its ruler, and your Sun.

Jupiter transits. Jupiter through the 10th house, or conjunct or trine the MC, is the classic "take the bigger job" transit: expansion, visibility, offers that seem slightly beyond you and turn out to fit. Jupiter through the 6th improves daily work and brings better colleagues; through the 2nd it raises income. Jupiter is in Leo from June 2026 to July 2027, so if your MC, 10th house, 6th or 2nd is in Leo (or your MC ruler is in a fire sign being trined), the growth window is open now. Jupiter's caution is over-reach: the offer that is too big, too fast, too good.

Saturn transits. Saturn on the MC or through the 10th is the culmination transit: you are given the responsibility you have been building toward, and it is heavier than it looks. Saturn does not favour the flashy job; it favours the one that builds a foundation you will stand on for years. Saturn is in Aries from February 2026 until 2028, testing MCs and 10th houses in Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Uranus transits. Uranus in Gemini since April 2026 shakes Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces MCs. Uranus jobs are sudden, unconventional, often remote or in a new field, and exciting. They are also unstable. Take a Uranus job for the freedom and the skill, not for the security.

Neptune transits. Neptune in Aries since January 2026 blurs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn 10th houses. The Neptune job is the one where the role is vague, the promises are large and the org chart is a mystery. It can be inspired (creative, spiritual, healing work thrives) or it can dissolve. Read the offer letter twice and get everything in writing.

Pluto transits. Pluto in Aquarius transforms fixed-sign MCs. Pluto jobs change who you are professionally, often through power struggles. Worth it if you want reinvention; exhausting if you want peace.

No transits at all. If nothing is touching your career houses, the job is neutral astrologically. That is fine. Decide on the merits.

The offer arrived during Mercury retrograde

The classic rule is: do not accept a job or sign a contract during Mercury retrograde. The realistic rule is: offers made during Mercury retrograde tend to change. The salary is revised, the start date moves, the role turns out to report to someone else, the recruiter misunderstood the level. In 2026 the last retrograde runs October 24 to November 13 (Scorpio into Libra), with shadow periods roughly two weeks either side.

If an offer arrives in that window: negotiate, ask every question, and get the final version in writing; but if you can, sign after Mercury turns direct. If the job is a return (a former employer, a role you did before), Mercury retrograde is actually well suited: it favours re-doing. Choosing the day to negotiate and the day to accept

Two separate elections. Negotiate with Mercury direct and well aspected (a trine or sextile to Jupiter or Saturn), the Moon in an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) or Capricorn, and not void of course. Accept with the Moon waxing, in Taurus, Cancer or Capricorn if you want the role to last, and again not void. Avoid the Moon square Saturn or conjunct Mars for either conversation. Example scenarios

The bigger title in a Jupiter year. Leo Midheaven, Jupiter transiting the 10th, an offer for a role one level above your experience. Astrology says: this is the window; take it, and watch Jupiter's tendency to over-promise on the resourcing.

The harder job under Saturn. Capricorn MC with transiting Saturn in Aries squaring it, choosing between a comfortable role and a demanding one at a serious firm. Astrology says: the demanding one, because Saturn is building your foundation and comfort now costs you later. Expect the first year to be hard.

The exciting startup under Uranus. Virgo MC, Uranus in Gemini squaring it, an offer from a two-year-old company. Astrology says: yes for the skills and the freedom, but hold your savings and do not assume it lasts.

The vague offer under Neptune. Cancer MC opposed by transiting Neptune in Aries, a role with a beautiful mission statement and no job description. Astrology says: get the scope, salary and reporting line in writing before you say yes.

The offer during Mercury retrograde. Any chart, an offer on October 30, 2026. Astrology says: negotiate now, sign after November 13, and expect at least one term to change before then.

A note on financial astrology

Salary questions belong to the 2nd house (income and what you value), the 8th (other people's money: equity, benefits, partner's resources) and Venus and Jupiter as significators of money. A Jupiter transit to the 2nd house is a good time to ask for more; a Saturn transit to the 2nd is a time when income is tested and you learn what you actually need. Financial astrology can describe these cycles; it cannot tell you a number, and it is not a substitute for knowing the market rate for your role. Use it for timing the ask, not for sizing it.

When will I get a job? (the honest answer)

Astrology shows windows, not dates. The windows worth watching are Jupiter transiting your 10th, 6th or 2nd house; the Sun's annual pass through the 10th (the month of your Midheaven sign); the progressed Moon entering the 10th; and a Saturn transit to the MC, which brings the role you have been building toward. Within a window, the specific week is often marked by a new moon in the relevant house (upcoming new moons: October 10 in Libra, November 9 in Scorpio, December 9 in Sagittarius, 2026).
