Lizzo's zodiac sign and birth chart: a Taurus Sun and a Virgo Moon

What is Lizzo's zodiac sign?

Lizzo is a Taurus. The singer and rapper was born on April 27, 1988, in Detroit, Michigan, about a week into Taurus season, so there is no cusp question to settle.

Taurus is the fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus. Tradition associates it with steadiness, patience and a deep appreciation of physical pleasure: good food, comfort, beauty and music. Astrologers also link Taurus with the throat and the voice. The sign's reputation for stubbornness comes from the same root as its reliability, since Taurus is described as slow to start and very hard to move once it has decided.

Moon sign

Her Moon is in Virgo. It was there for the whole of April 27, 1988, so a Virgo Moon holds whatever the time of birth that day.

The Moon describes emotional needs and habits. In Virgo, astrologers read it as finding security in order and usefulness: sorting feelings by thinking them through, and showing care through practical help. The tradition also gives a Virgo Moon a sharp inner critic.

Taurus and Virgo are both earth signs. A Sun and Moon in the same element is read as an easy fit between what a person wants and what they need, and in earth the shared theme is the tangible and the well made.

Venus and Mars

Neither planet changed sign on her birth date, and both move slowly enough that the time of day makes no difference.

Her Venus is in Gemini. Venus rules her Sun sign, which gives it extra weight in a Taurus chart. In Gemini, the planet of love is associated with banter, quick humour and curiosity, and with attraction that starts in conversation.

Her Mars is in Aquarius. Mars is the planet of drive, and astrologers read it in Aquarius as independent and unconventional, moved by ideas and causes, and resistant to being told how things are supposed to be done.

So the earthy Sun and Moon sit alongside two air placements. Astrologers would describe that as a grounded core with a quick, sociable surface.

Rising sign

The record does not give a reliable rising sign for Lizzo, so we do not state one as fact. Astro-Databank, the archive astrologers use for birth data, lists a birth time of 2:30 pm with a Rodden rating of C. A C rating means the source is unknown or the time is an estimate. Because the Ascendant moves into a new sign about every two hours, an unsourced time is not enough to pin it down.

She has, however, described herself as Leo rising. We report that as her own description. We cannot confirm it from documented data, and we are not disputing it either. Our guide to reading a chart with no birth time covers how much of a chart survives without one.

Is Lizzo into astrology?

She talks about her sign with obvious enjoyment, which is not quite the same as saying she follows astrology. In a 2022 Vanity Fair video, as reported by Uproxx, she said she loves being a Taurus.

She has also described herself as Leo rising. Naming a rising sign means looking past the Sun sign that most people stop at. Beyond those two points the record is silent, and so are we.
