Drake's zodiac sign and birth chart: a Scorpio Sun and a Cancer Moon

What is Drake's zodiac sign?

Drake is a Scorpio. The rapper was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the Sun was in Scorpio for all of that day, so the sign does not hinge on his birth time.

Scorpio is a water sign, and a fixed one, which in astrology means it holds its course. Tradition associates it with intensity, privacy, strong loyalties and a long memory. It is the sign astrologers connect with whatever sits below the surface: motives, secrets, the feelings people do not say out loud. Its old ruler is Mars and its modern ruler is Pluto, and its symbol, the scorpion, stands for a sign said to defend its ground sooner than retreat.

Moon sign

His Moon is in Cancer. The Moon did not leave Cancer at any point on October 24, 1986, so the sign holds whatever the time of birth that day.

Cancer is the sign the Moon rules, and astrologers treat a planet in its own sign as especially strong. A Cancer Moon is read as sentimental, protective and closely tied to home, family and the past, with moods that rise and fall like tides. Together with a Scorpio Sun it gives two water signs at the centre of the chart, a combination the tradition describes as feeling-led and slow to forget.

Venus and Mars

Venus is in Scorpio and Mars is in Aquarius. Both are slow enough to keep the same sign through the whole birth day, so they stand regardless of the hour.

Venus in Scorpio is read as all-in: deep attachment, strong privacy and little interest in anything casual. Astrologers note that Venus is not at its easiest in Scorpio, the sign opposite Taurus, which Venus rules, and they describe love here as intense more than light. Mercury is in Scorpio too, so the Sun, Mercury and Venus all share the sign. Mars in Aquarius pulls the other way. It is read as cool-headed, independent and driven by ideas, a Mars that prefers its own method to anyone else's rulebook.

Rising sign

On the recorded birth time, Drake's rising sign is Leo, with a caveat worth spelling out. Astro-Databank, the archive astrologers use for birth data, lists 2:31 am with a Rodden rating of AA. That is the top grade on the Rodden scale, given when the time comes from a birth certificate or birth record. On that time the Ascendant is on the last degree of Leo, so a minute or two later would make it Virgo.

That is about as close to a border as a rising sign gets. Even a time from a birth record was written down by someone glancing at a clock, and astrologers flag any Ascendant this near a sign change. Leo rising is read as a warm, visible, confident first impression; Virgo rising, the alternative, as more reserved and exact. The record supports Leo, so that is what we state: Sun in Scorpio, Moon in Cancer, Leo rising on 2:31 am.

Is Drake into astrology?

He has referred to his sign, which is not the same as following astrology. His 2006 mixtape Room for Improvement includes the track "A Scorpio's Mind", and his 2018 album is titled Scorpion. Both titles point to his sign. They do not tell us whether he follows astrology, so the fact card lists him as someone who mentions his sign, and this page claims no more than that.
