Dua Lipa's zodiac sign and birth chart: Leo Sun, Cancer Moon

What is Dua Lipa's zodiac sign?

Dua Lipa is a Leo. The pop singer was born on August 22, 1995, in London, England, in the closing days of Leo season.

Leo is the fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun itself. Astrological tradition associates it with confidence, warmth, generosity and a natural ease in the spotlight. The lion is the zodiac's performer and its loyal friend: proud, big-hearted, protective of its people. Astrologers name the shadow side as pride that bruises easily and a dislike of being overlooked. As with any Sun sign, this is the general character of Leo in the tradition, shared by everyone born under it.

Moon sign

Her Moon is in Cancer, whatever the time of birth that day. The Moon did not change sign on August 22, so this placement is as firm as the Sun.

Astrologers read a Cancer Moon as the Moon at home, because Cancer is the sign the Moon rules. The traditional picture is a deeply feeling, protective, sentimental emotional nature that needs a safe base and a close circle. A Leo Sun with a Cancer Moon places the Sun and the Moon each in the sign it rules, which astrologers consider a strong, self-consistent combination: outgoing on the surface, home-loving underneath.

Venus and Mars

Venus is in Leo and Mars is in Libra, and both move slowly enough to hold those signs for the whole birth day.

Venus in Leo is read as affection that is generous, demonstrative and loyal, fond of grand gestures and happiest when the admiration runs both ways. It shares a sign with her Sun, which doubles the Leo emphasis. Mars in Libra is traditionally a more awkward fit, because Mars likes to act directly and Libra prefers to weigh both sides. Astrologers read it as drive that works through charm, collaboration and a strong sense of fairness.

Rising sign

Her rising sign is Gemini on the birth time she shared in 2023. Astro-Databank, the archive astrologers use for birth data, lists that time as 12:18 am with a Rodden rating of A, the grade for a time quoted from memory by the person or family.

There is a wrinkle worth knowing. In earlier interviews she had described herself as Libra rising. The rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so it is the placement most sensitive to the exact time used. We follow the time she shared in 2023 and mention the earlier description so the difference does not come as a surprise.

Gemini rising is associated with a quick, curious, talkative first impression: a way of meeting the world with questions and a light touch. In the tradition, the rising sign is about manner and first impressions, and it sits alongside the Sun and Moon as the third of the "big three".

Is Dua Lipa into astrology?

Yes, by her own account. In a 2022 Financial Times interview she said she gives friends sessions with her astrology reader as gifts. Two years earlier, in a 2020 V Magazine conversation, she listed her Sun, Moon and rising signs and said she was obsessed with an astrology app.

Knowing all three of those signs and having an astrology reader of her own go well beyond naming a Sun sign, so it is fair to describe her as openly interested. Both statements are hers, made in published interviews, and they are the only basis for this section.
