How biorhythm compatibility is calculated

Each biorhythm cycle is a sine wave that starts at zero on your birth date. Two people born on the same day have identical waves; two people born some days apart have the same waves shifted by that many days. Compatibility is simply a measure of that shift, cycle by cycle:

1. Find the difference in days between the two birth dates. Call it d.
2. For each cycle, take the remainder of d divided by the cycle length (23, 28 or 33). That is the offset within the cycle.
3. Convert the offset to a phase angle: offset ÷ cycle length × 360°. Then fold it so anything over 180° counts as the shorter way round (an offset of 300° is the same as 60°).
4. Score it: compatibility = 100 × (1 − angle ÷ 180). A 0° angle scores 100%; 90° scores 50%; 180° scores 0%.
5. Average the three for the overall figure. Some calculators weight the emotional cycle more heavily for romantic pairs; ours reports all three and the plain average so you can see the parts.

A worked example

Two people born 28 days apart. Emotional: 28 ÷ 28 leaves no remainder, so the emotional cycles are identical: 100%. Physical: 28 ÷ 23 leaves 5; 5/23 × 360 = 78°; 100 × (1 − 78/180) ≈ 57%. Intellectual: 28 ÷ 33 leaves 28; 28/33 × 360 = 305°, folded to 55°; ≈ 70%. Overall about 75%: same emotional tides, moderately aligned energy and thinking.

Two people born 7 days apart: physical 7/23 → 110° → 39%; emotional 7/28 → 90° → 50%; intellectual 7/33 → 76° → 58%. Overall about 49%, which is typical. Because the cycle lengths are all different, it is mathematically rare to be in sync on all three: that needs birth dates a multiple of 21,252 days (58.2 years) apart, or the same day.

What the score means (and does not mean)

High compatibility (roughly 70–100%) in a cycle means you rise and fall together. In the emotional cycle, that is shared moods: you are both up or both flat, which feels harmonious but gives you no one to lean on during the joint lows. In the physical cycle it means matched energy for trips, sport and late nights. In the intellectual cycle it means you are sharp at the same time, good for planning sessions, less good when both of you are fuzzy and a decision is due.

Low compatibility (roughly 0–30%) means opposite phases: when one is high the other is low. The tradition frames this as complementary rather than bad. One of you carries the energy while the other recovers; one is steady while the other is having a moment. Couples with opposite emotional cycles often describe never both being in a bad mood at once, which is a genuine feature of a long relationship. The friction shows up in timing: you want to go out on the night they want to stay in.

Middle scores (30–70%), where most pairs land, mean the cycles overlap part of the time and diverge the rest. Your best shared days come round predictably; the calculator shows when.

What the score does not mean: anything about attraction, values, communication style, conflict, or whether you will last. Biorhythm has no concept of who you are, only when your assumed cycles peak. Two strangers born on the same day score 100% on everything; that tells you nothing about a relationship.

Using biorhythm compatibility in real life

• Plan the important conversation for a day both emotional cycles are high or at least not both low. The calculator's daily view shows both curves; look for overlapping peaks.
• Schedule physically demanding plans (moving house, a long hike, a wedding weekend) when physical cycles are both above zero.
• Avoid double-critical days for big joint decisions: days when either person's cycle crosses zero, and especially when both do.
• Use opposite phases deliberately. If your emotional cycles are out of sync, agree that whoever is up that week handles the difficult phone call.
• Do not use it to judge a match. A 20% biorhythm score with a strong synastry is a good relationship with interesting timing. A 95% biorhythm score with a hard Saturn-Venus square is two people crashing at the same time.

A note on the science

As we say on the single-person calculator, biorhythm is a pseudoscientific model: the cycles are assumed from the birth date, not measured, and controlled studies have not found predictive value. Compatibility scores inherit that limitation. What is real is that couples have rhythms, energy, mood, attention, that drift in and out of alignment, and that noticing yours together is worth doing. Use the calculator as a prompt for that conversation and you will get more from it than any percentage can give.
